Death of Mr. Samuel Null.

Another of our aged citizens has answered the last summons. On Monday last, July 30th, at the age of 73, Mr. Samuel Null peacefully and calmly passed away. Mr. Null experienced a slight shock of paralysis some two weeks before and he took his bed in his last sickness. For some years he has been gradually failing in strength, but continued able to be around and at work, for he could never be idle. He was buried on Tuesday, a large concourse of friends following his remains to their last resting place.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Brown.

Mr. Null was born November 17th, 1812, in Warren county, Ohio. On the 30th of August, 1832 he married Miss Margaret Miltenberger, who with three children, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive him. They lived upon a farm until 1843, when they moved to another farm in Preble county, Ohio.

The year following Mr. Null became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and during all those forty-four years has lived the life of an earnest, active consistent christian.

The Friday before his death he thought his end was near, and he bade his family good-bye. He then stated his only regret of going was leaving his aged wife, but it was comforting to know they would not long be seperated. He had no doubt of the future and what his future would be, and he would cross that dark river in full and perfect trust in his savior.

In 1866 he moved to Henry county, Iowa. For six years he had charge of the Henry county poor farm. In 1869 he moved to Winterset where he since resided except the three years he was in charge of the Madison county poor farm.

Peace to his ashes. If ever there was an honest man and Christian gentleman, Mr. Null was one. Kind hearted, with a cheery smile for every one, ever ready to do a deed of mercy or kindness, with a word of encouragement or comfort for all, none knew him but to respect him, and time alone can fade out his memory. He lived to a good old age and did his life work well.
