Death of Mrs. R. C. Barcroft

Mrs. Kate Hornaday Barcroft died at her home of Feb. 4th. Although friends knew that she was not in good health, the fact that her condition had been critical for several days was not generally known. The end came after three days of continuous sleep, from which she never awakened. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday conducted by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley. Burial took place in Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Barcroft had lived in Winterset for 25 years. Full of nervous energy, she worked hard and enthusiastically at whatever she undertook. Church work was a pleasure to her-club life brought enjoyment. In the Woman's Relief Corps she was a valued member. Her loss is a great one to the various organizations to which she belonged. To the bereaved husband, daughter and two sons, the sympathy of the community is extended.

Mortuary

Kate Hornaday was born Jan. 10, 1871 in Knoxville, Iowa. A part of her early life was spent in Lenox, Iowa. Ralph C. Barcroft and Kate Hornaday were married in Greenfield, June 15, 1897. They made their home in Winterset all their married life, except a brief period spent on their farm near this city.

She united with the Presbyterian church March 14, 1909 and was a faithful and beloved member to the end. She was vice president of the womans’ missionary society of her church and she will be greatly missed. She was also an active member of the Woman’s Relief Corps and a member of the Womens’ club. She was generous in service for those in need and her hand was always ready to help. She was never too busy to do all she could in any work of mercy.

On Saturday evening, Feb. 4th, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She leaves her husband, Ralph C. Barcroft; three children: Ruth M., Robert Hornaday and Ralph George; and two sisters: Mrs. J. C. Cunningham of Omaha, Neb.; and Mrs. O. I. Williamson of Holstein, Iowa, and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at half past two o’clock, led by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley, pastor of the Presbyterian church
