Former Resident Dies

Mrs. Homer H. Hankins, formerly Carrie Ludlow of Winterset, died at the tuberculosis hospital in Ottawa, Illinois, last Saturday, December 8, according to word received here this week. Mrs. Hankins was buried there Tuesday.

Miss Ludlow, as she was familiarly known here, was superintendent of the Madison county schools, at one time. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ludlow, pioneer settlers of Lincoln township. She was born in Winterset, September 3, 1875. She attended the local schools and began teaching in this county in 1896, spending three years as a teacher in the rural schools. From 1899 to January 1913, she taught in the Winterset schools, and then assumed her duties as superintendent of the rural schools. Her previous experience as a teacher well qualified her for her work, in this connection, and she served as county superintendent until 1920. Shortly after her marriage to Mr. Hankins they moved to Ottawa, where they have since resided.

She leaves her husband, and a brother Ernest Ludlow of Washington, D. C.
