Accident Casued Death of Herbert Hill Monday Eve

Lad Run Over by Hayrack While Helping Father in Field

Herbert Hill, nine-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hill of south of Dexter, passed away at his home Monday evening as the result of an accident that afternoon, when he was run over by a hayrack which he had been driving for his father.

Exactly how the accident occurred will never be known. Herbert was sitting on the front of the load holding the lines while his father was loading hay on the rack. In some way, the lad fell off the front onto the double-trees, which frightened the horses. They jumped ahead, jerking Earl Hill off the back of the load and pulling the wagon wheels over Herbert.

At first it was thought that no serious injuries had been sustained as nothing more than a few bruises and scratches could be found, and when death came that evening, it was pronounced due to heart failure, the shock having been too much for the boy.

Herbert is survived by his parents, an older sister, Louise, and a younger brother, Royce, besides his loving grandparents and other relatives. The sympathy of the entire community and neighborhood in which they live go out to those who are left to mourn his untimely passing.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon in the Dexter Methodist church with interment in the Dexter cemetery.
