Mrs. G. S. Cumberlege, only daughter of J. S. McGinnis, of Patterson, died very suddenly, June 5th, at her home in Sioux City. Mrs. C.'s infant child died the Monday before. Congestion of the lungs set in and carried her away. The Sioux City JOURNAL speaks of her very highly. Her only regret in going was the sorrow it would bring to friends left behind.

Obituary – Sioux City Journal
Mrs. G. S. Cumberlege died very suddenly yesterday morning at 9:30 o’clock at the residence of Elder W. Whitfield, where she had rooms. Her husband travels for the Hornick Drug Company and is absent the greater part of the time in Dakota.
Mrs. Cumberlege was only about 20 years old, sweet and lovable in disposition, and endeared herself to all who knew here. She was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McGinnis, of Patterson, this state, and in her dying moments she bewailed the sorrow that would some to them through the sad tidings.
To her only friend, Mrs. Whitfield, she said that she wanted to live to see her father, mother and husband again, but, if the Lord willed, she was ready to go. She called for different members of the family whom she had learned to love and who loved her, and bade them good bye, one by one.
At her request Mrs. Whitfield knelt by the bed, laid her head near the dying pillow, clasped the dying hand of the young wife and daughter, and prayed the dying soul over the river, where the girl life fled joyfully, going, if only God thought best.
