We have received the sad intelligence of the death of Mr. Thos. Runkle, of Scott township. His death occurred late last Friday evening. An obituary will be found elsewhere in this paper.

OBITUARY

Thomas Runkle died at his residence March 26th, 1886, aged 70 years, 9 months and 27 days.

He fell Jan. 6th which resulted in an inter capsular of right hip, after suffering much from this severe affliction. He contracted a severe cold on the nineteenth of March, which resulted in inflammation of the bowels, complicated at the last with congestion of the liver and lungs.

Thus has passed away one of the first settlers of the county, Thomas Runkle, born in Culpeper Co., Virginia, May 29th, 1815. When 7 years old his parents removed to Indiana, Bartholomew county.

His first marriage occurred January 29th, 1840 to a Miss Breeding, she died December 26, 1852, leaving three children, Mary J., Sarah C., and John M. Married the second time to Miss Catherine Guilliams in 1855. She died September 23d, 1859 and left one son, William L. His last marriage occured in 1864, to Mrs. Mary A. Johnson, there is born to them one son, Frederick C.

Mr. Runkle moved to this county and settled on the place of his residence in the fall of 1851. He has been much esteemed in his neighborhood, he embrased the Christian religion in 1855, and united with the Christian Church and has been a much esteemed member, and worthy citizen of this county.

His funeral service was attended at his residence March 28 by Rev. A. H. Chase.

Note: Burial was made at Union Chapel South cemetery.
