George S. Ruth, passed away at his home in Winterset, Saturday morning after a lingering illness of heart trouble at the age of 76 years. Mr. Ruth was one of a family of nine children born to James and Elnor Ruth. He was born in Guernsey county, Ohio and at the age of 19 years came to Douglas township, this county where he resided for 49 years.
In 1917 the family moved to Winterset. He was a member of the First Methodist church and attended church services regularly as long as his health permitted. He leaves his widow and one son, Harrell W. in the home, and two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Hannah Weeks of Newton and Mrs. Rachel Laizure of Linneus, Mo., and two step-daughters, Mrs. Laura Foster and Mrs. Mary McDonald of Winterset and many other relatives.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton, were held from the Methodist church on Monday afternoon.

George Stidger Ruth, one of nine children of James and Elinor Ruth, was born Aug. 29, 1849 in Marshall county, West Virginia. In 1859 he moved with his parents to Guernsey county, Ohio. In 1868, at the age of 19 years, he moved to Douglas township, Madison county, where he resided for 49 years.
On Dec. 22, 1870 he was united in marriage to Amanda E. Swafford, who passed away on June 4, 1886. To this union three daughters were born: Hannah, Rachel and Jenetta; the latter dying in infancy. On Sept. 12, 1889, he was united in marriage to Myra Bell Moore, who passed away Nov. 23, 1904. On Dec. 25, 1906 he was united in marriage to Candace Harrell Cooter. To this union two children were born: Georgia, who died in infancy, and Harrell W.
In 1917, the family moved to Winterset, where Mr. Ruth passed away, Saturday morning, Oct. 24th at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 25 days.
During childhood, he attended the Presbyterian church and united with the First Presbyterian church of Winterset at an early age. In 1889 he united with the West Star Methodist church, and in 1917 transferred his membership to the First Methodist church of Winterset. He attended church regularly when his health would permit.
Those left to mourn his departure are his widow and son, Harrell W.; two daughters, Mrs. Hannah Weeks of Newton, and Mrs. Rachel Laizure of Linneus, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Laura Foster and Mrs. Mary McDonald of Winterset; and three brothers, John and Joseph Ruth of Winterset; and Alexander Ruth of Sawyer, N.D. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Ruth had been in failing health for several years, but during all the time he was cheerful. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and to speak a kind word to his neighbors and friends in sickness and sorrow.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton.
