Obituary

John Milton Drake was born in Madison county, Iowa March 27, 1860 and died Nov. 5, 1913 at his home in Webster township. He was 53 years, 7 months and 9 days of age and had spent his entire life in Madison county with the exception of 1883, which he spent in Montana.

He and his youngest brother, E. E., were in the farming and stock raising business on the old Drake homestead for 25 years and on account of his failing health they settled their partnership business in the spring of 1912 and John went to live with a sister in Winterset where he could have the advantage of medical treatment. After two months in Winterset with no Improvement in health, he longed to be back on the farm, so on the 7th of July of the same year he returned and made his home with his brother, E. E., the remainder of his life.

He was a firm believer in the Christian religion and was always ready to donate to the support of the church. His name often appeared in the Christian Herald among those who contributed to the Bowery mission.

He leaves to mourn his loss, two brothers, Wm. M. and Everett E., and two sisters, Mrs. Ella J. Garrett, all of Madison county, and Mrs. Sadie E. Garrett, of Adair county. His father, mother, one brother, and one sister preceded him to the great beyond.

The funeral services were held Friday at the Middle River M. E. church, conducted by Rev. J. E. Clearwater, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Roberts cemetery.
