Jacob S. Arnold died at the asylum at Clarinda on last Saturday in the presence of his son, Clark Arnold, who had been called by message on account of unfavorable change in his father’s condition.

Remains were brought to Truro for burial on Monday. The deceased was a most excellent and upright gentleman, an ex-soldier of the civil war and has been a great sufferer for many years. His unfortunate and untimely death is sincerely regretted by everyone, and the deepest sympathy is accorded to his family.

J. S. Arnold an old and much respected citizen departed this life March 3rd, the funeral was held at the M. E. church at 10:30 March 5th. Sermon by Rose Hall; text “Be ye also ready”

The casket was wrapped with the Stars and Stripes for which he had helped to keep floating by his service as a soldier in the 51st Regiment of Ohio Infantry during the late rebellion.

Ohio Township -

On Friday March 2d, occurred the death of Mr. J. S. Arnold, one of Madison counties most respected citizens.

The funeral was held Monday, March 5, at 10 a.m. Mr. Arnold was one of our foremost citizens, a veteran of the war, a most exemplary neighbor and a loving husband and father.

He will be greatly missed by all but we know that his was a hope that rested on God’s truth, and we shall see him again. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.

Obituary -

J. S. Arnold was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, Oct. 23, 1844. Died March 2, 1900; aged, 55 years, four months, eight days.

Came to Iowa in 1866; was united in marriage to Miss Mahala Lathrum, July 23, 1872; to them were born two sons and one daughter.

He was converted at the age of 17 and united with the M. E. church; he was an honest, upright Christian gentleman; he enlisted in the civil war in Co. G. 51st Ohio; he leaves two brothers and four sisters to mourn his loss and one brother and three sisters have gone to their reward; he will be greatly missed by all.

Jacob S. Arnold who has lived since 1866 near Truro, Iowa, died March 3rd, 1900. The funeral service was held in the M. E. church on Monday at Truro, conducted by Rev. Hall. He was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Oct. 23rd, 1844. Married Miss Mahala Lathrum July 25th, 1872. To them were born two sons and one daughter, all of whom survive him, besides his widow and children he has two brothers and four sisters left to mourn his loss.

He was converted at the age of 17 and united with the M. E. church of which he remained a consistent member until his death.

He enlisted in the civil war in Co. G, 51st Ohio, and served two years. A serious sickness came to him about two years ago, and from which he never recovered. An honest and upright Christian gentleman, as such he will ever be to us who knew him. His mortal remains lie waiting the archangel’s trump. May we heed the Text "he ye therefore ready also; For the son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not." Luke 12, 40
