Obituary-Mrs. Robt. McCalman

Catherine Cocklin was born in Wayne county, Ohio, January 17, 1839. In 1854 she with her parents came to Washington, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Robert McCalman in 1857 and in 1868 they came to Madison county, Iowa and in 1901 to Dexter, where she died March 13, 1911, aged 72 years, one month and 22 days.

In January 1859 she was converted and united with the Baptist church and lived an earnest, Christian life.

She is survived by her husband, four sons and two daughters. One son died in infancy. There are also four brothers and a sister.

The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church in Dexter at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday, March 15, Rev. U. O Bethel officiating. The text whcih was suggested by Mr. McCalman was from Titus 1:2 "In hope of eternal life which God who cannot lie promised before the world began." This is a very appropriate text in view of the Christian character of the departed and her firm faith in a life beyond this.

The children are widely separated. The sons are S. J. McCalman of Winterset, I. J. McCalman, a physician living in Kansas City; C. S. McCalman, a dentist at Mapleton, Iowa; and E. E. McCalman of Norton, Kansas. The two daughters are Mrs. H. L. Moore of Sioux Falls, S. D., and Mrs. S. W. Niblock of Fresno, Calif. All attended the funeral except the two farthest away, E. E. McCalman and Mrs. Niblock. Other relatives from a distance were H. L. Moore, Mrs. J. R. Taylor of Washington, Iowa, the only sister of the deceased; A. L. Cocklin of Carney county, Nebraska, D. E. Cocklin of Washington, Iowa and J. W. Cocklin and wife of Ridgeway, Mo.

The deceased had been in poor health for some time and frequently suffered from bad spells. During her last illness, she failed rapidly. She was resigned to her fate and to the last preserved the faith and courage that had sustained her through these years. She was a good wife, and a kind and loving mother and her faith and cheerfulness will ever prove an example for the loved ones left behind. Interment was made in the Dexter cemetery Wednesday forenoon.
