OBITUARY

On Friday, April 11th, died, Miss Elizabeth Pitzer, after an illness of a little more than two weeks. The funeral services occurred at the Methodist Church on the following Sabbath, conducted by Rev. C. H. Newell assised by Rev. Amos Weaver.

Miss Pitzer was born in Virginia in 1804, and while yet young moved with her parents to Kentucky, where she resided a number of years. From Kentucky the family again removed to Illinois, which was their home for a number of years. In 1840 she accompanied her brother, Judge J. A. Pitzer, to Fairfield, Iowa, where they resided until 1849, when they removed to Winterset. Miss Pitzer was a devoted member of the Methodist Church from early youth till her death, and though by reason of her age and infirmity she was not able to attend public worship, still her faith in the religion she embraced in youth never wavered. Few except those of the family where she resided and her immediate relatives saw much of her during the past ten years, yet those who were thrown into her society esteemed her for the amiability of her character and the patience with which she bore the infirmities of age. One year ago she was quite feeble but she rallied with the return of spring and was comparatively well until two weeks prior to her death. And thus at the ripe age of four score years, has passed away one more of the early settlers of our county.
