Page 1The sad news of a suicide was brought to town Monday morning. William Terry has for some time been unwell and it was noticed by his friends that his mind was also affected. His father-in-law, Mr. George Clark made it his special business to watch him closely as it was feared he meditated self destruction. On Monday morning Mr. Clark came to town and had been here but a short time when a boy followed him bearing the sad news that the premeditated deed had been done.
Mr. Terry, taking advantage of his father-in-law's absence, went to the barn and having adjusted a rope around his neck, one end of which had previously been tied to a rafter jumped from the hay mow, thus dislocating his neck and causing instant death. The deceased was forty years old and leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his untimely death. The cause of his temporary derangement of mind is not known.
He was one of the most respected citizens of Douglas township and one whom all honored and trusted. On his person was found a very affectionate and quite rational letter to his wife.
