JERALD JAMES EIKLENBORG, Earlham

Jerry J. Eiklenborg, age 44, died at Kavanagh House Hospice on Grand in West Des Moines Sunday September 2, 2007.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday September 6, 2007 at Worthington Methodist Church in rural Earlham, Iowa with burial in the Worthington Cemetery.

Jerry was a Navy Veteran of the Gulf War. He was employed as a welder at the John Deere Des Moines Works.

Jerry is survived by his wife Leann Eiklenborg of Earlham; son Joshua Eiklenborg of Earlham; parents, Clarence and Marjory Eiklenborg of Parkersburg, IA; brother David (Melissa)Eiklenborg of Kesley, IA; sisters Joyce Helm (Dave) of Grinnell and Sharon (Dan) Abbott of Van Horn, IA; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday September 5, 2007 at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services were held for Jerry Eiklenborg on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Worthington Methodist Church of rural Earlham, Iowa. Pastor Jerry Hoff officiated. Bryan Martens was the pianist and Kathy Hopkins was the soloist. She sang “I Can Only Imagine” and “Amazing Grace”.

Pallbearers were Spenser Bretsch, Jack Van Zee, Bob Dull, Ken Decklever, Carl Tessmer and Roger DeBoer.

Jerry Eiklenborg was born the son of Clarence and Marjory DeBoer Eiklenborg in Waterloo, Iowa, on December 27, 1962. He died at Hospice of Central Iowa of cancer in West Des Moines, Iowa on his 18th wedding anniversary, September 2, 2007 at the age of 44years, 8 months and 6 days.

Jerry graduated from Hawkeye Technical High School in 1981 and immediately entered the U.S. Navy, serving during the Gulf War. During his term, he served on the USS Yellowstone, USS Nimitz and the British HMS Bobo.

Jerry and Leann Van Zee were married in Des Moines on September 2, 1989. This union was blessed with a son Joshua. Jerry was employed as a welder at the John Deere Des Moines Works.

Jerry loved to be outdoors, spending his time tinkering in his shop, working on tractors, motors and racecars. He especially enjoyed driving hobby stock race cars at the Stuart and State Fair racetracks. He loved to fish, however, his greatest outdoor passion was deer and pheasant hunting.

Jerry is survived by his wife Leann and son Joshua, both of Earlham; his parents Clarence and Marjory Eiklenborg of Parkersburg, Iowa; brother David Eiklenborg and wife Melissa of Kelsey, Iowa; sister Joyce Helm and husband Dave of Grinnell, Iowa; sister Sharon Abbott and husband Dan of Van Horn, Iowa.

Interment was held at the Worthington Cemetery in rural Earlham, Iowa. Military gravesite rites were provided by Earlham American Legion Post 158. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
