T. Jesse passed away at his home three miles southwest of town of last Sunday. Funeral services were held Tuesday and burial was made at the Peru cemetery.

William Thomas Jesse was born in Kentucky, Aug. 8th, 1839. He came to the State of Iowa in 1861 and was settled on a farm in Madison county in the same year at the age of 22. In a very short time he felt the call to serve in the army and enlisted in the 23d Iowa Infantry, Co. H and rendered efficient service until the close of the war.
He then returned from the army and soon established a home. He married Miss Martha E. Eskew in 1866. There was born to this union three boys and three girls, two of the latter are now deceased.
He has a brother and sister now living who will mourn the loss of their brother, others who are left are his wife, Martha E., his sons, Ed. M., Chas. A., and John, and a married daughter, Mrs. Martha Ellen Church, who will mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. Mr. Jesse had many friends and was beloved and respected by many.
He departed this life May 27th, 1917, at the ripe old age of 77 years, 9 months and 22 days.
The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist Episcopal Church of East Peru, Iowa, by Rev. Orville Paul Manker, after which interment was made in the Union Chapel cemetery, near Patterson, Iowa.
