Died on Sept. 28, 1907, at 7 o'clock a.m. Omer Whitefield James, of hemorrhage of the lungs, after a illness of over four years. Deceased was born in Scott township, Madison county, August 12, 1857 and has resided in this county since.

In 1880 he was united in marriage to Sarah Lathrum, who survives him. To this union were born two children, Frank and Leah. He united with the M. E. church at the age of seventeen and has remained a consistent member of this organization ever since. He was buried in the St. Charles cemetery by the I.O.O.F. of which society he had long been a member.

Thus at the age of fifty years, one month and sixteen days, has passed away a loving companion, a faithful husband, a fond and doting father, and a good neighbor to the hosts of friends who will cheerfully attest to the fact.

He was conscious to the last and was resigned to his fate with the beautiful fortitude only found in the christian who feels that his reward is awaiting him, according to the promise of the One who said, "Well done," and who feels no lingering regrets for anything undone. He will be sadly missed by his children and his faithful companion, who has been with him constantly so long and during the long period of his last illness never left his side, and whose every thought has been of his safety and comfort and to whom he has been wont to turn for every want, even as a child. The inadequacy of language to express the condition of her mind, is a well known situation to those who have been called on to pass through the ordeal and we may only say to her, "Behold the teachings of the truth, which ye have long followed." His last words were, "Lord I am ready."
