A week ago last Saturday night, the Rev. Mr. Walters, who lives just across the county line near Earlham, was bitten by a rattlesnake under very peculiar circumstances, from the effects of which he died in very great agony the following Tuesday. It seems upon going to bed the door was left open and getting up in the night to shut it some obstruction hindered it from closing. Pulling the door open again he gave whatever it was a shove, supposing it was the carpet, and was bitten by the snake which was lying in the door. It is said before he died his skin turned spotted and that although everything was done for him that could be, he suffered intense pain until his death.
