July 23, 1908Death has again visited Macksburg and removed one of her good citizens and follower of the lowly Nazarine.
William M. Griswold was born July 19, 1872 near Macksburg, in Madison county, Iowa. He was married to Miss Nora May Cozar, May 27, 1894. In a short time they moved to California, where they resided for about eight years, when they returned to Macksburg where they have made their home ever since.
He was converted in 1895, and in 1898 he was baptized and joined the Adventists church, where he remained a member until he was called to pay the great debt. He contracted stomach and spinal affections while in California and for several years he has been a constant sufferer. Though being of an ambitious temperament, he did quite a little work until the last few months when he was compelled to give up and keep his bed most of the time.
Last spring his many friends, wishing to assist him and his family in every way possible, (after he had spent several hundred dollars in securing medical aid,) raised about one hundred dollars and sent him to Colfax for treatment. But it did him no good. He was a patient sufferer and enjoyed talking upon the theme of salvation. He laid down to rest forever from the conditions of this old world on the 11th of May, 1908.
The funeral service was held in the M.E. church on Monday, at 10 a.m. and was attended by a large and sympathetic audience.
He leaves a wife and two boys, father and mother, five brothers, two sisters and a host of friends who will greatly miss him. But our loss is his gain. The text used on the occasion was “Blessed are the dead which died in the Lord” Rev. 14:13. The services were conducted by the writer. –J. N. Hosier, Pastor M.E. Church
