DEATH'S WORK

Mrs. John Shannon, of Jefferson township, died Sabbath. Her body, together with that of an infant child which had died a few days previously, was taken to Des Moines Monday for burial, the little one being taken up from the grave in which it had been placed. The old lady Shannon had died a few days ago at her home in the east edge of Madison county, and but a short time previous to that, her son-in-law, named Hughart, died near Bevington. Here were four deaths in one family in the same neighborhood and all within a short time. It would seem as though the harvest being reaped by death was a large one in that vicinity.--Indianola Tribune.

Coordinator's note: Four deaths are described here: "the old lady Shannon" is Elizabeth Weekly, wife of James W. Shannon. She died February 16, 1880 and is buried in the Blair Chapel Cemetery. Her "son-in-law, named Hughart" would be Young A. Hughart who died February 04, 1880. John Shannon, who lost both an infant and his wife who were buried near Des Moines, may be a son of James and Elizabeth.
