Earlham, Iowa
February, 1914Lizzie, youngest daughter of the late Robt. W. and Grace Foster was born at Townhead, Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Scotland, on Feb. 8th 1881, and died at Earlham, Iowa, Jan. 31st 1914.
In 1889 she came to the United States with her father, four sisters and two brothers, her mother having departed this life in 1886. Between 1895 and 1897 Lillie suffered the loss of a dear father and four sisters and returned to Scotland in 1897 where she lived for nine years in the tender care of two aunts. She again came to Iowa in 1905 where she has since lived with her two brothers.
Lillie’s life has been one of much sickness, she having been frail the greater part of her sojourn here. On Dec. 16th 1913 she took sick and since that time grew weaker day by day till the end came. Quietly and patiently, she bore her sickness and when she knew she could not recover, told us she was not afraid and raising her hands, said, “Jesus, take care of me.” She did not understand many of the things revealed to us, but her simple, childlike faith was strong enough to enable her to trust and pray to Jesus who understands all things.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1, at the home of H. A. Foster, and were conducted by Rev. Demaree. A large number of friends gathered to observe the last sad rite. Interment was made in the Earlham cemetery
