The funeral of little Edith Burt occurred last Friday afternoon. The attendance was large and many were sympathizing hearts that followed the remains to its last resting place.

DIED

BURT - September 6th, of typhoid pneumonia, at her home in Winterset, Edith M. Burt, aged 7 years and 4 months.

For some six weeks she had been in poor health, but was not confined to her bed more than three weeks. The fatal destroyer made rapid and sure work. She manifested remarkable patience during her sickness, lying quietly without a murmur. She was a very unusual child; far beyond her years in intellectual development, a thought that others of her age labored to get hold of. She grasped seemingly by intuition. She anticipated the wished of her teacher before they could be expressed. She was the pet of the school-room, by her winning ways, stealing the hearts of those about her.

She delighted in the Sabbath School and Church, and in singing the praises of the sanctuary. Her expressive, intelligent, thoughtful eye we cannot forget. She is missed in the day school, in the Sabbath school, in the church, but most of all in the house she made so cheerful with her joyous presence. But she has gone where she will bloom more brilliant and develop more rapidly and more ferfectly than was possible in this world. Not simply as a child is she saved but as one of the Lord's little ones, who loved Him here, of which she gave satisfactory evidence.

The heart-stricken parents may be comforted in the thought of a family re-union, never to be broken up in the world of life everlasting.

Transcriber's note: She was likely initially buried in the Winterset Cemetery. An article from the 21 Apr 1896 Madisonian states that Mrs. Burt came to Winterset for the purpose of removing her deceased children for burial in Des Moines (Woodland Cemetery). Edith is listed in the Woodland roster with a date of 17 Apr 1896
