STRICKEN BY BOLT WHILE IN BUILDING

Young Farmer Had Lived in Walnut Township Since January

Robert Austin, 34-year-old Walnut township resident was instantly killed last Friday when struck by lightning at the farm home of his brother, Ivan Austin, about one and one-half miles east of the Podunk station on highway 169 south of Winterset.

The young man was struck by the bolt while he was in an outbuilding on the farm. Deputy Sheriff Cecil Letz and Coroner Paul Eggleston was called and investigated the death but no inquest was held.

Austin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Austin, Sr. of Walnut township. Much of his early life was spent in Winterset and he attended the Winterset schools.

For the past several years he had worked as a barber at Arispe and Tingley. Since the first of this year he had been farming in Walnut township.

Robert W. Austin was born at Arispe on May 18, 1910, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Austin. Most of his life had been spent in Arispe, Winterset and Lorimor.

On Oct 23, 1938, he was married to Manerva Robinett of near Barney. They were the parents of a daughter, Carol, now two and half years old.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his parents; four brothers and two sisters; Leonard Austin, with the U. S. army in France, Forest Austin of near Peru, Iowa; Ivan Austin of Barney; Jerry Austin at home; Mrs. Joe Dodd of Mississippi; and Mrs. Dana Harper of near Barney.

Funeral services were held from the Lorimor Methodist church in charge of Rev. E. F. Thompson, assisted by the Rev. J. E. England. Burial was made in the Lorimor cemetery.
