SERVICES HELD FOR FORMER RESIDENT

The body of Mrs. Sadie Van DeWeerd of Gowrie was brought to St. Charles early last week for burial in the St. Charles cemetery, following her death at a hospital in Ft. Dodge Jan. 8.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Van DeWeerd from the United Methodist church at Gowrie on Jan. 11.

She was the former Sadie V. Davis, daughter of William and Alice Davis, and was born in Madison county Sept. 17, 1891. She was married in Truro, April 9, 1913, to Boyd Porter. They lived there until his death in 1942.

Following Mr. Porter's death she moved to Gowrie where she operated the Porter cafe for several years. In 1951 she was married to V. Van DeWeerd. They operated a restaurant in Farnhamville, then moved to Cresco where Mr. Van DeWeerd's death occurred. After that, she moved to Gowrie where she operated the North Side hotel.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Orin McFarland of Gowrie; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Davis of Storm Lake.
