Obituary

Emily McMurray was born near Winchester, Fredrick county, Va., July 2, 1817. Died at her home in Barney, Ia., Dec. 24, 1903, aged 86 years, 5 months and 22 days.

When ten years of age she, with her parents, moved to the county of Muskingum, state of Ohio. While there she became acquainted with John Reasonier, and in the year of 1836 they were united in marriage. To this union were born four sons and six daughters. In the year 1844, she with her husband and two children, moved from their home in Ohio to Richland county, Ill., where they resided twenty-one years; moving from there to Madison county, Iowa, in 1865. She moved to her home in Barney in the fall of 1889.

Of her family of ten children, her six daughters survive her. Only two however being able to attend her funeral. She leaves to mourn her death, besides her six daughters, a large number of relatives and a great concourse of friends.

At the age of twenty-two and while living in Ohio, she was converted and united with the Presbyterian church. When she moved to Iowa she transferred, as a good Christian ought, her membership and identified herself with the church of her choice, the Presbyterian, at Winterset, Ia. After moving to Barney, as the church of her choice had not been planted there, feeling that she needed a church home, she, in the year of 1895 united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which she was a member at the time of her death. During her last sickness she was a patient sufferer. In fact all her life she has proven herself a faithful wife, a loving mother and a devout Christian. Her funeral was conducted from the church at Barney by Rev. M. H. Eells, of Sheridan, Mo. As a foundation for his remarks he used the words recorded in Job 38:17.
