Mr. W. A. Lyon passed away at the home of his son, J. P. Lyon, Saturday, Mary 12th. The deceased was born in Fountain County, Indiana on July 27, 1832 and was married to Caroline Anderson at Champaigne, Illinois on October 19, 1854. In the following year he moved to Jones County, Iowa. He buried his wife there in 1876. He moved to Winterset in 1884.

He leaves 7 children to mourn his loss, 3 sons and 4 daughters: John F. of Winterset, Robert of Oklahoma, William of Chicago, Mrs. Mary C. Lefever of Spaulding, Mrs. Effie Watters and Ida Frances Lyon, who live in Chicago. He was buried at Antioch, Jones County, Iowa, beside his wife who was laid to rest 25 years ago.

Obituary

Mr. W. A. Lyon passed away at the home of his son, J. T. Lyons, Saturday, May 12th, where he has been so kindly cared for during his long illness.

He had been a sufferer from paralysis for about three years, and for two years was entirely helpless. For one so sadly afflicted, he bore his illness with patience and fortitude seldom surpassed. Though not a member of any church, he was a firm believer in the religion of Jesus Christ, and throughout his life his character was consistent with such a belief. He being a devoted father, esteemed citizen, and was respected by all who knew him.

The deceased was born in Fountain county, Ind., July 27, 1832, and was married to Caroline Anderson at Champaign, Ill., October 19, 1854. The following year he removed to Jones county, Iowa, where he was a successful farmer for about thirty years, removing to Winterset in 1884, where he has since made his home.

He leaves seven children to mourn his loss, three sons and four daughters, namely: John, whose home is in Winterset, Robert, who lives in Oklahoma, Wm., of Chicago, Mrs. Mary C. LeFever, who lives in North Dakota, Mrs. D. E. Shoemaker, of Spaulding, Iowa, Mrs. Effie M. Walters and Miss Ida Francis Lyon, who now reside in Chicago.

The funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 on Tuesday. A number of friends and relatives were in attendance, including all the children, with the exception of Robert, Mrs. Shoemaker, and Mrs. LeFever, who were unable to attend.

The remains were accompanied by the sons John and Wm. To Jones county, Iowa, for burial in the Antioch cemetery, beside the wife, who was laid there to rest twenty-five years ago.

John Lyon, who lived just east of the Baptist church, died last Saturday and funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday, the remains being taken to Jones county, the home of the deceased prior to his residence of sixteen years in this county.

Local Pickups

Wm. A. Lyons died Saturday May 12, at the home of his son, John Lyons in this city, where he has been residing for the past two years, he being a suffer from paralysis for a number of years. The funeral occurred from his late residence last Tuesday, conducted by Rev. S. J. Callison, a number of friends and relatives from out of town being present. The remains were taken to Jones county, this state, for interment. The deceased was 69 years of age and was born in Fountain county, Indiana.
