Winterset Madisonian – November 2, 1898
Pg 2
From Macksburg

Died, October 25, Joseph Armstrong, brother of Wm. Armstrong, of this place. After a short illness he passed away on Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. On Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock a short funeral service was conducted by Rev. D. W. Myers at the residence of Wm. Armstrong, where he had resided for several years. The remains were taken to Indianola for interment where his wife was already buried. Mr. Armstrong is known to a number of Madison county people, also to Union county people, and his death so sudden will be a great shock to his friends. In this city he leaves many warm friends to mourn his death. Three brothers still survive him and we understand were all present at his burial. H. H. Saxton and Ed Maxwell accompanied Wm. Armstrong and daughter to Indianola.
