Virgie Carpenter, Winterset

Virgie Louise Carpenter, 75, life-long resident of central Iowa died September 9, 1999 at the IHS nursing home in Winterset. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was born June 22, 1923 near St. Charles to Virgil and Marjorie (Fisher) Young. She married Lyle Tuttle in 1941. She attended Iowa State University. In 1969 she married Orval Carpenter of Coon Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands and a brother.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Dale Tuttle and wife Nancy of Winterset, Lyle Tuttle and wife Loretta of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Paul Tuttle and wife Jeanene of Hawthorne, Florida; two daughters, Maretta Miller and husband Dave of Milton, Wisconsin, and Sue Johnston of Ames; two brothers, Burnard Young and wife Darlene of Council Bluffs and Myron Young of Indianola; a sister-in-law Shirleen Young of Monticello, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
