The following clipping was taken from the Urbana Daily paper telling of the death of Horace N. Shaw.
“Horace Newell Shaw, long time merchant, died suddenly at his home, 412 West Washington street, Urbana, Illinois, at 8 p. m. Sunday May 13th, as the result of an illness of a few hours due to cerebral hemorrhage. He was at his place of business on South McCullough avenue, Saturday.
A short funeral service was conducted Tuesday, May 15th at the Renner funeral home and burial was made in Mount Hope cemetery in Urbana, where the Masons performed their burial rites.
The deceased was born in Loveland, Ohio. He had been a merchant for the greater part of his life, and had lived in Iowa most of his life. He had lived in Illinois for five years. Mr. Shaw was prominent in Iowa Masonic affairs a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Winterset lodge. He also belonged to the Eastern Star, and the Sons of the Revolution in Iowa. In Urbana, he was a member of the First Presbyterian church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rose M. Shaw, two children, James J. Shaw who assisted his father in the business, Kathryn Jane Shaw who is a Sophomore in the University of Illinois, and two sisters Mrs. L. E. Willcox and Mrs. L. M. Montgomery of St. Louis, Missouri.
Others attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. H. D. MacLean and Helen Wilcox of Michigan City, Indiana, nieces of Mr. Shaw".
