LAST RITES HELD FOR MABEL SCHUTZ

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 3, from the Macksburg Methodist church for Mrs. Mabel Schutz, a pioneer resident of the Macksburg community.

Mrs. Schutz died on Dec. 30 (1953) at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. She was 75 years of age.

The daughter of Charles and Olive Hart she was born Sept. 15, 1878 in Marshall county, Iowa.

She attended the rural grade schools of Grand River township and was a member of the first graduating class of Macksburg high school.

On Nov. 28, 1901, Mabel Emaline Hart was united in marriage to Alvin C. Schutz at Enid, Oklahoma. To this union were born four children, a daughter Nona Olive, died at the age of 10 months.

Early in life, Mrs. Schutz became a member of the West Branch church, later transferring her membership to the Macksburg Methodist church. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge for 55 years.

She is survived by three sons, Doyle of Macksburg, Warren of Van Meter and Andrew of Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers, Harold and Finn Hart of Los Angeles, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died five weeks ago on Nov. 24, and by a brother, Sam Hart of Enid, Oklahoma.

Officiating at the services Sunday afternoon were the Rev. Summerbell and the Rev. Rowe. Burial was in Moon cemetery south of Macksburg.
