Death of a Pioneer

Mrs. Martha Tidrick, wife of the late Dr. L. M. Tidrick, died at her home on South 1st avenue this morning at four o’clock, after a long illness.

Mrs. Tidrick was one of the pioneers of Winterset, coming here in 1854, when the town was a village of but a few houses. This has been her home ever since. She has been one of the forceful characters of the community, friend to everybody and by everybody greatly esteemed. The Tidrick home in the days gone by was noted for its hospitality and good cheer. Many are the delightful social gatherings, presided over by the genial and entertaining hostess that can be recalled by our older citizens.

She leaves to mourn her two daughters and four sons, Mrs. Addie White, of Tacoma, Wash.; Lee B. of Winterset; Charles, Chamberlain, S. Da.; Mrs. Grace Geiger and Hoyt, of Kansas, and Joseph of Winterset. The deceased would have been 80 years of age had she lived until next March.

The funeral services will be held at the late residence Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
