MRS. LENA AIKIN DIED ON SUNDAY

Native of Germany, Lived Nearly All of Life in Jefferson Township

Mrs. Lena Aikin, member of a well known family in Jefferson township, died at her home there Sunday, Aug. 9. She was 88 years of age.

Mrs. Aikin was a native of Germany where she was born Nov. 12, 1864. She came to America with her parents when she was 5 years of age, and nearly all of her life had been spent as a resident of Madison county.

She was married Dec. 15, 1882 to Lewis Aikin, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by seven children, Mrs. Ona Lonnecker and Mrs. Jessie Braman of Winterset, Gilbert Aikin and Mrs. Fay Burger of Van Meter, Ray Aikin of Orient, Mrs. Opal Burger of Van Meter and Emory Aikin of Loveland, Colo., a brother, Anthony Blohm of Los Angeles, 32 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. May Balentine and Mrs. Grace Newton also preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Richards funeral home in Winterset conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bierman. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
