A nine year old son of M. Malone, of Douglas, was recently drowned in North River. He waded out into the stream and stepped in a hole washed out by recent high water, and found thus a watery grave.

Boy Drowned – A little son of M. Malone, of Douglas Tp., aged nine years, was drowned on Tuesday evening in North river, while attempting to wade the stream. He and a younger brother were together, the unfortunate one telling his little brother not to attempt to cross until he waded in and ascertained how deep it was.

On entering the stream at a place where he had been in the habit of crossing previous to the recent heavy rains, it was ascertained that a deep hole had been washed, and the poor little fellow stepped in too far to be able to recover himself. His little brother tearfully says he seen the poor boy working for some time with his feet, but being unable to swim he had to succumb to his fate and was baptized into that eternity that knows neither trouble nor waking. His stricken parent has the sympathy of an affectionate and realizing community.
