James McClain, Oklahoma

James J. McClain, 63, of Savanna, Okla., and former Winterset resident during the late 1960s and early 70s, died Feb. 3, 2003 in McAlester, Okla.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 6 at Mills Memorial Chapel in McAlester with the Revs. Jim Roebuck and Dale Boggs officiating. Burial was at Savanna Cemetery.

James McClain was born April 3, 1939 in Howe, Okla., to Jim and Bulah (Weir) McClain. A graduate of Savanna High School, he attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Okla., and Northeastern State College in Ada, Okla. James had worked for the Corps of Engineers, later retiring from the McCalester Army Ammunition Plant. On Aug. 13, 1976, he married Mildred Motley in Muskogee, Okla. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 534 and First Assembly of God Church, both of Savanna. He also was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Millie of Savanna, Okla.; a son, Gary Wansick of McAlester, Okla.; four sisters, Peggy Phifer of Tupelo, Okla., Eveline Jones of Yukon, Okla., and Ida Rollings and Gerald Dean Mason, both of McAlester, Okla.; a brother, Jerry McClain of Savanna, Okla; and three grandchildren.
