MACKSBURG MAN TAKES OWN LIFE

Charles L. Blair Had Been in Ill Health Many Years

Charles L. Blair, a well known Grand River township farmer, took his own life by shooting himself at his farm home, one and one-half miles south of Macksubrg, last Friday evening.

Mr. Blair was home alone at the time. He had been in ill health for many years, and left several farewell notes. His death occurred about 7:15 p.m., and his body was found about 15 minutes later by two of his sons, Charles and Lee Blair.

Mr. Blair was 59 years of age, and was a veteran of World War I. His wife preceded him in death.

Sheriff Rex Rouse and Coroner Paul Eggleston were called to the scene of the death, and after investigation, officially reported the death as a suicide.

Mr. Blair leaves three sons, Merle Blair of Adel, Charles Blair of Macksburg, and Lee Blair, who recently arrived home after completing service in the U.S. navy.

CHARLES L. BLAIR WAS WORLD WAR VETERAN

Charles L. Blair, whose death occurred April 28, at his home south of Macksburg, had lived on that farm since his marriage in 1920.

He was born near Macksburg Nov. 11, 1895, a son of Alexander and Mary Blair. When he was five years old he moved with his parents to near Afton, where his early life was spent.

He entered the United States army service on March 18, 1917, serving two years in World War I as a member of Co. A. 334th Battalion.

After receiving his discharge he returned to Macksburg, where he was employed on a farm until his marriage on Nov. 25, 1920, to Mamie R. Thomas. They moved to a farm south of Macksburg where the remainder of his life was spent.

His wife died in 1944. He is survived by three sons, Merle Blair of Adel, Charles Blair, Jr., of Macksburg, and Lee Blair at home; three grandchildren; three sisters, Lillie of Afton, Eva of Creston and Lula of San Antonio, Texas; and two brothers, Clyde Blair of Creston and Frank Blair of Afton.

Funeral services were held May 3 from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Rowe. Burial was made with military honors in the Moon cemetery.
