MAT WALTERS, JR. DIED ON THURSDAY

World War Veteran Passes at Home Here; Was 42 Years of Age

Matt C. Walters, Jr., Winterset World war veteran, died last Thursday at his home here. He was 42 years of age.

Mr. Walters was a life-long resident of this community. He was born near Winterset on Jan. 14, 1897, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mat Walters, Sr. He enlisted in the United States army in 1918 for service in the World war, and was in training at Camp Dodge when the Armistice was signed.

He was married on Dec. 13, 1919, to Miss Opal Little.

Mr. Walters had been in failing health for some time. He had spent five weeks in the Veterans' hospital in Des Moines.

In addition to his wife and his aged parents, he is survived by 10 brothers and sisters: Essie Votruba of Des Moines, Bessie Thomas of San Francisco, Hattie Armstrong of Hollywood, Cal., Nora Clark of Winterset, Lee Walters of Minneapolis, Minn., Ray Walters of Rapid City, S. Dak., Charles Walters of Van Meter, Edna Salley of Minneapolis, Earnest Walters of Winterset, and Grace Jensen of Mason City. One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held last Saturday from the Anderson home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
