GEORGE W. MATHEWS, California Rites for Area Native

Funeral services were held in Lancaster, Calif. on April 8, for George W. Mathews, a native of St. Charles. Mr. Mathews died at Lancaster on April 5, 1975, at the age of 58.

George W. Mathews was born at St. Charles on March 25, 1917. A chief boatswain mate, he retired after 20 years of naval service on March 1, 1954. He was a member of the Lemon Grove Masonic Lodge No. 736 F. and A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Mathews of Lancaster, Calif.; two sons, George Bundy of North Hollywood, Calif. and Russell Pool of Downey, Calif.; and two daughters, Mrs. Donna Luney of Imperial Beach, Calif. and Mrs. Carol Abercrombie of Lancaster, Calif.

Other survivors include two brother, John Mathews and Odel Mathews, both of St. Charles; and three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Addy and Mrs. Elba Fuson of Iowa, and Mrs. Juanita Kellogg of Encino, Calif.

Services for Mr. Mathews were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Murphy Mortuary in Lancaster, Calif., with burial in the Joshua Memorial Park, also in Lancaster.
