Former Resident Dies at Jewell

Funeral services and burial were held at Jewell, Iowa Saturday, November 9th, for Russell Phillips of Jewell, a former Madison County resident who died November 6th, of an apparent heart attack.

Russell Loring Phillips, son of Chester A. and Cornella Moore Phillips, was born November 14, 1897, at West Liberty, Iowa. He was reared and educated at Peru, Iowa. And during the World War I served with the U. S. Medical Corps in France.

He was married March 10, 1921 to Inez Ellen Porter, and the couple farmed in the Blairsburg and Winterset areas before moving to Jewell in 1963.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and one daughter; Lawrence Gene Phillips of Stratford, Merrill P. Phillips of Aschaffenburg, Germany, and Mrs. Melvin (Ellen Joan) Timm of Webster City; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, and one sister, Leland of Webster City, Paul of Truro, Dana of Abilene, Kansas, and Mrs. Gretchen Lamme, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers.

He was a member of the United Federated Church of Christ and the American Legion.

Among those from Madison County attending the services were Kenneth Spera, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heichel, Mr. and Mrs. Wm F. Easter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Niblo, Mr. and Mrs. Corwin Beverlin, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Beeler, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Creger, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bierma, Mrs. Gertrude Fenimore, Mrs. Alma Spera and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Phillips.
