FORMER MACKSBURG BOY DIES IN BURMA

Sgt. Harold M. Pinckney, formerly of near Macksburg, died of malaria fever in Burma on July 1, according to word received by his wife who lives in Chicago.

Sergeant Pinckney was the son of E. E. Pinckney of Lorimor. He was born and reared near Macksburg, attending grade school there. He attended high school at West Plains, Mo., where his mother lives.

He entered the army Sept. 1, 1940, serving in the Medical corps. He had been in India and Burma for the past two years and was evidently stricken with the fatal malady while participating in General Stilwell's campaign to wrest northern Burma from the Japanese.

Malaria Is Fatal To Former Lorimor Boy

Sgt. Harold M. Pinckney of the U.S. Army died Saturday, July 1, somewhere in Burma following a short illness of malaria. He is the son of Ernest Pinckney of Lorimor and Mrs. Blanche Pinckney of West Plains, Missouri. Sgt. Pinckney, 21 years old, and listed in the service on September, 1940, and had been stationed in India the past two years. In May 1944 he was sent into Burma where he contracted malaria.

Memorial services were held for them Sunday, July 16, at the Lorimor high school, conducted by Rev. Everett Epperson and Rev. Edgar Thompson.

Sgt. Pinckney was born near Macksburg on January 29, 1923, and spent the first nine years of his life in Madison county. The attended the Macksburg grade school and graduated from the West Plains, Mo., high school in 1940. He was a member of the Christian church he was married on December 23, 1941, and his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Pinckney, resided in Chicago, Ill.

Is survived by his wife, his mother and father, and one sister, Winnifred of West Plains, Mo.
