Samantha Alice Vert was born in Marion county, Indiana, on March 1, 1855, and moved to Iowa in the fall of 1855. She departed this life at the home of her daughter on October 23, 1930, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 22 days.
On March 20, 1873, she was united in marriage to LeRoy McMains. To this union five children were born, all of whom were at her bedside when death came. Her husband preceded her in death 13 years last January.
She leaves to mourn her departure four sons; Aetna, Lloyd, Coker and Arlie; one daughter, Mrs. Fern M. Rogers; one sister, Mrs. Mary Lorimor, and one brother, Oscar Vert, all of Lorimor.
She was converted early in life and united with the Methodist church, of which she was a faithful member as long as health permitted.

Page 6Death of Mrs. A. McMains
Mrs. Alice McMains died suddenly last Thursday morning, October 23, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fern Rogers, south of Monette. Mrs. McMains was well known in the southern part of the county where she resided several years ago.
She leaves to mourn her death, one daughter, four sons, one sister, Mrs. Mae Lorimor, and one brother, Oscar Vert, of Lorimor. Her husband preceded her in death fifteen years ago. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock from the Monette church. Interment was made in the Lorimor cemetery.
