DEATH OF MARTIN CASTEEL

Pneumonia Proves Fatal to Veteran Resident of Winterset

Martin Casteel, a resident of Winterset for more than half a century, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Everett Clark, here early Monday morning. He had been ill about a week with pneumonia. (d. 3-30-1936)

Mr. Casteel was 85 years of age. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 10, 1851. In 1871 he came to Madison county. For a time he farmed in Lincoln township, but a few years later he moved to Winterset, which has been his home, since that time.

Through his long residence here, Mr. Casteel enjoyed a wide acquaintance throughout this community. He followed the occupation of a teamster for some time, then served several terms as city marshall and as street commissioner.

He was married on August 3, 1876 to Alice Martin. She preceded him in death, as also did a son, Fred, who died in 1902. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude McDonald of San Mateo, California, Mrs. Everett Clark of Winterset and Mrs. Beulah Wells of Chicago. There are also three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of Rev. M. R. Talley, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
