WILLIAM L. BERCH DIES

William Leander Berch, former Madison county resident, died at San Bernardino, Calif., Sunday, Nov. 1, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Berch had spent that Sunday with his brother and family and as he was returning home in the evening, he was struck by an automobile. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

The body was brought here, and the Rev. Roy Ramsey conducted his funeral services at the Patterson Methodist church Sunday, Nov. 8th, and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Berch of Macksburg, three sons, William of Ft. Lewis, Wash., and John and Roy of Macksburg; four daughters, Mrs. Velma Goodwin of Earlham, Mrs. Thelma McFarland of Manhattan, Kan., and Mrs. Della Pollard of Indianapolis, Ind., and Donna Belle Berch of Macksburg. He also leaves a small granddaughter and two sisters, Mrs. John King of Carson and Mrs. Alice Geiger of Omaha, Neb., and two brothers, Z. J. Berch of Bloomington, Calif., and Lewis Berch of Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Berch was a Spanish American war veteran and saw active duty for twenty months in the Phillipine Islands. He was also an active member of the V.F.W.
