Winterset, IowaFUNERAL SERVICES FOR TOM ROBERTS
Tom A. Roberts, well known Madison county farmer, died at his home in Jackson township, Monday morning, July 27th, after an extended illness, at the age of 80 years. Mr. Roberts had been in poor health, the past 7 1/2 years, and had been bedfast since April.
A son of John and Emily Roberts, he was born in Adair county August 2, 1872, and was married to Miss Florence Fleming, also of Adair county, October 9, 1900. Mr. Roberts engaged in farming, and he has always resided in Madison or Adair county, with the exception of a few years spent in the Dakotas, and in Seattle, Washington. He and his wife have resided in their present farm home in Jackson township, for the past 14 years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Roberts is survived by their three children, Clifford Roberts, of Seattle, Washington, and Mrs. Earl Crawford and Mrs. Dale Niblo of this community. He also leaves five grandchildren: Mrs. Barbara Gately and Phillip Roberts of Seattle, A1/c Robert Niblo, who is now stationed at Wilmington, Delaware, Marion Niblo, storekeeper 3/c of the U.S. navy, who is now stationed on the Ute, in Hawaiian waters, and Mrs. Joan Wilson of Winterset. He also leaves one brother, John Roberts of Dexter, and three great grandchildren. Five brothers and a sister have preceded him in death.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Webster Methodist church, and the pastor, the Rev. Donald Cutler, conducted his funeral services, at the Anderson home for funerals, this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Penn Center cemetery.
