Succumbs Less Than Two Months After Death of Husband
Mrs. Opal Nolan, widow of the late Leo F. Nolan, died in the Mercy hospital in Des Moines last Friday, less than two months after the death of her husband. She was 33 years of age.
She had been in failing health the past two years. On Sunday of last week she was taken critically ill, was rushed to the hospital and died five days later.
Mrs. Nolan was born and spent most of her life in Winterset. She was born here on Aug. 28, 1908, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thurman. She attended the Winterset public schools and graduated from the high school here with the class of 1926. For the next two years she was employed in the office of the Madison county auditor.
On Dec. 26, 1928, she was married to Leo F. Nolan of Winterset. They made their home here for several years before moving to several towns in northern Iowa, where Mr. Nolan was called by his duties with the Iowa State Highway commission of which he was an employee. When her husband became critically ill last spring, she moved to Des Moines to live with her sister, Mrs. Hazel Grant.
Mrs. Nolan is survived by her 13-year-old daughter, Patricia Ann; her father and mother; and five sisters, Mrs. Grace Krell of Des Moines, Mrs. Lyda Dean of White Plains, N.Y., Mrs. Hazel Grant of Des Moines, Mrs. Mae Spurling of Des Moines and Mrs. Mabelle Sprinkle of Newton.
Funeral services were held here Monday with requiem mass at St. Joseph's Catholic church in charge of the Rev. Costin. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
