Death of Mrs. J. K. Sayre (Joseph Knotts)

Mrs. Susannah Kale Sayre, former resident of this county, died at the hospital in Dodge City, Kansas, Saturday, May 1st, after a short illness. Mrs. Sayre who was 78 years of age, was taken to the hospital last week and was operated upon for a ruptured appendix. Her condition grew worse and she died Saturday.

Mrs. Sayre was a member of a pioneer family of Scott township. She was married to J. K. Sayre, 62 years ago, and they moved to Kansas in 1875 and were pioneer settlers at Ensign. Mr. Sayre died March 31, 1937.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Mackey of Colorado and two sons, Clarence of Ensign, Kansas and Clyde of Dodge City, Kansas. Mrs. Sayre is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews in this county. Funeral services and burial were held at Ensign, Monday, May 3.
