DOUGLAS TOWNSHIP WOMAN SUCCUMBS

Mrs. J. F. McDonald Died Tuesday After Brief Illness

Mrs. Joseph F. McDonald, a resident of Douglas township since 1875 died at her home there early Tuesday after a brief illness. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. McDonald had suffered a stroke Sunday.

She came to this county shortly after her marriage in 1875 to Joseph F. McDonald. They settled on a farm in Douglas township, where she lived until her death. Her husband died in 1916.

Six children survive their mother. They are Frank, Gyrun and Edward McDonald, Mrs. Effie Helm and Ella and Lily McDonald, all of Madison county.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the West Star Methodist church, where she had been a member for many years. The pastor, the Rev. E. E. Garrett was in charge of the rites. Burial was made in the North McDonald cemetery.

SERVICES ARE TODAY FOR MRS. McDONALD

Mrs. Teresa Jane McAllister McDonald, 80, widow of Joseph F. McDonald, died Tuesday morning at her home northwest of Winterset, following a stroke Sunday.

Mrs. McDonald had lived in the county many years. She was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, and came to Madison county after her marriage. Mr. McDonald died in 1916.

She leaves her children, Frank, C. B. and Edward McDonald, Mrs. Effie Helm and Misses Ella and Lillie McDonald, all of who live in the county.

Services will be this afternoon, Thursday at two o’clock at the West Star church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. E. Garrett. Burial will be in the McDonald cemetery.

Mrs. Joseph F McDonald

Teresa Jane, daughter of John and Margaret McAllister, was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, September 30, 1856 and died at her home and Douglas township, Madison county, February 9, 1937.

October 18, 1875 she was married in Cambridge, Ohio, to Joseph Fletcher McDonald and came to her Iowa home, where she has resided ever since. Her husband died in 1916.

She was the mother of ten children. Two of them, Margaret and Herman, died in childhood. Her oldest son, John, and oldest daughter, Mrs. Addie Nelson, died in 1929.

Those surviving are three sons, Frank, Cyrus and Edward, three daughters, Mrs. Effie Helm, Ella and Lily, all of Madison county.

Seven grandchildren, Alice Riegle of De Soto; Merritt McDonald of Park River, North Dakota; Mabel Bassett of Edgewood; Joseph McDonald of New Hampton; Inez Nelson, was made her home with her grandmother since the death of her mother, and Cyrus Burt and Teresa May McDonald of Earlham. Also three great grandchildren, John Richard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merritt McDonald, Mabel Louise and Gail Riegle, children of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Riegle.

Mrs. McDonald was the only remaining member of a large family. Her interests were largely centered about her own home and family. She was a devoted mother, a dear friend to those who knew her best and thoughtful and interested in her neighbors. She was a member of the West Star Methodist church, was a regular attendant when her health permitted and always interested in its welfare.

Funeral services were held at West Star church Thursday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. E. E. Garrett and burial in the McDonald cemetery.
