Death of Paul Balch Friday, December 5th

The body of Paul Wayne Balch, six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Balch of Washington, D. C. was brought here Sunday night, and funeral services were held Monday afternoon, December 8th, at Tidrick’s funeral home. The little fellow became ill last Tuesday, with a severe case of diphtheria, and was taken to the Providence hospital in Washington. His condition became worse however, and he died about four o’clock, Friday morning, December 5th.

Mr. Balch accompanied the body here. Mrs. Balch had also planned to come, but ten minutes before time to start, another son, Clyde, became ill with the disease, and she was unable to leave him. Messages received after Mr. Balch’s arrival here, state that Clyde’s condition was not regarded as critical, however.

Paul was born in Winterset, September 26, 1924. Mr. Balch was formerly linotype operator in the Madisonian office. The family left here when Paul was a year of age, for Washington, where they have since resided. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Clyde and Bernard, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wilkinson of Winterset, who are spending the winter at the Balch home.

Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted the funeral services, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
