Formerly of Madison County; Succumbs to Heart Ailment
Bert Mathews, a resident of Madison county during his early years, died at his farm home near Prole last Wednesday, June 16, after several months illness with a heart ailment. He was 55 years of age.
Austin Gilbert Mathews was born in Madison county Aug. 2, 1892, the son of Leonard and Dessa Mathews. He was a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Calvin Mathews of West Des Moines and Manford Mathews of Wichita, Kan.; six sisters, Mrs. Lester Janes of Winterset, Mrs. Emma Jacobson of Earlham, Mrs. Everett Bell of Perry, Mrs. Charles Sheets of West Des Moines, Mrs. Ray Cartwright of Des Moines, and Mrs. F. V. Weaver of Woodburn; and one brother, Edward Mathews of Grimes.
Funeral services were held from the Linn Grove church near Prole and burial was made in the cemetery there.
