Earlham, (Special) April 9th:-Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Earlham Methodist church for Fred Reader.
Rev. James Walls of Conway, a former pastor at Earlham, preached the funeral sermon. Rev. Mitchell assisted Rev. Walls, with the service. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Bernie Wetrich, Mrs. Earl Schalkle, Mrs. Arthur Marks and Claire Leeper.
Frederick Charles Reader, son of Charles and Lucy Reader was born October 27, 1867 at Cole City, Illinois and departed this life April 3, 1937 at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 7 days. He was married to Lillian Meachem, August 12, 1805(incorrect date ??) and to this union one child, Margaret Irene was born.
The couple moved from Mazon, Illinois to Milford Iowa in 1901 and seven years later came to Earlham.
Besides his wife and daughter, he leaves two grandsons, Norvin and Clifford Nolte, a sister, Mrs. Catherine Cole of Morris, Illinois and brother, William Reader of Mazon, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. burial was made in the Earlham cemetery with A. B.Schalkle, Art Hill, J. H. Junkin, George Atherton, Frank Fritz and O. L. Walker as pallbearers.

Death From Heart Trouble Came at 3:00 a.m. Saturday; Funeral Monday Afternoon
Fred C. Reader, 69, well known Penn township farmer died at three o’clock Saturday morning, April 3. He had long been troubled with a heart affliction.
The funeral service conducted by Rev. James Walls and Rev. H. S. Mitchell was held Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Earlham M. E. Church. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
Frederic Charles Reader, son of Charles and Lucy Reader, was born October 27, 1867 in Cole City, Illinois and departed this life April 3, 1937 at the age of 69 years, five months, and seven days.
He was married to Lillian Maie Meachem August 12, 1895. To this union was born one child, Margaret Irene.
The couple moved from Mazon, Illinois, to Milford in Dickinson county, Iowa, in 1901 and seven years later came to Earlham in Madison county, Iowa, where he spent his remaining years tilling the soil that gave his subsistence.
He was a friend of man with a kindly spirit for everyone. A harsh word seldom left his lips. He possessed sincere honesty and integrity.
Besides his widow and daughter, he left two grandsons, Norvin and Clifford Nolte, a sister and brother, Mrs. Catherine Cole of Morris, Illinois, and William A. Reader of Mazon, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.
