CASS PINDELL, 90, DIES IN MACKSBURG

Was One of Oldest and Most Influential Citizens of County

Macksburg--(Special)--One of Madison county's oldest citizens passed Sunday at Macksburg in the death of Cass Pindell, who for three score years was one of the leading citizens of that community.

Mr. Pindell died Sunday at the age of 90 years. He was a native of Brown county, Ohio, where he was born June 11, 1849, the son of Michael and Jennie Brady Pindell. He spent his early years in that state, and when 23 years of age started farming for himself there. In 1873 he moved to this state, and coming to Madison county, settled on Section 3 of Grand River township. Here he became one of the most prosperous and influential farmers and stock raisers in the community. At one time he owned about 500 acres of Madison county land, in addition to large tracts in North Dakota and Canada. He also served as director of the Macksburg National bank.

In 1872 he was married to Miss Melissa Pindell. She died a few years later, and Mr. Pindell's second marriage was to Mrs. Julia Hilberry who survives him.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Pindell leaves two daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. Jennie Ballard of Macksburg and Mrs. Melissa Ballard of Baker, Mont.

Funeral services were held in Macksburg Wednesday, rites being held from the Methodist church there and from Mr. Pindell's home. The services were in charge of the Rev. M. D. Summerbell, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.

CASS PINDELL DIES AT AGE 90

Prominent Macksburg Man Had Lived In Madison Co. Over 60 Years.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 5, at two o’clock in the Macksburg Methodist church for Cass Pindell, one of Madison county’s oldest citizens, who died at his home in Macksburg on Sunday. The service was conducted by the Rev. M. D. Summerbell and burial was made in the Moon cemetery.

Mr. Pindell had been in failing health for the past several years and the past month had been confined to bed. Cass Pindell, the son of Michael and Jennie Pindell was born at Arnheim, Brown county, Ohio, June 11, 1849. He spent his early years in that state and when 23 years of age started farming for himself there.

In 1873 he moved to this state and settled in Grand River township, Madison county. He chose farming and real estate as his life’s vocation and dealt extensively in the latter profession until after the war. He retired from the farm a number of years ago and since that time had resided in Macksburg.

He was United in marriage to Malissa Dunn at Arnheim, Ohio in 1872. To this union three children were born, Jennie Ballard, who Macksburg, Ia.; Malissa Ballard of Baker, Montana, and Michael who died in infancy. He was preceded in death by his parents; Mrs. Pindell who died in 1876 and one son, four sisters and one brother. In 1893 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Julia Hilberry at Macksburg.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Ballard of Macksburg, Mrs. Malissa Ballard of Baker, Montana; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and a group of friends.
