KENNETH CORDELL BROOKER, Van Meter

Kenneth Cordell Brooker, 81, son of Marion and Marguerite Brooker, was born on February 4, 1926, at the family farm south of Van Meter. Kenny passed away February 24, 2007, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel with burial to follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Van Meter. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m.

Kenny married JoAnn Baldon of Adel on February 4, 1955. The couple had two sons, Jon and Rex. The family lived in Adel briefly early on, then moved to Van Meter in 1959 and has been there ever since. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1944. Kenny then served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving an honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal.

Throughout his life Kenny worked as a mechanic, carpenter, and electrician. He worked several years for the Department of the Army at Fort Des Moines until his retirement. In his ėretirement’, Kenny kept plenty busy doing a number of electrical jobs for friends and neighbors around the Van Meter area. He truly enjoyed his work.

Kenny was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Adel as well as serving on the church council at Trinity Lutheran Church Van Meter. He was a past mayor of Van Meter and also a member of the Van Meter American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years JoAnn, sister Celesta Peterson (Bob) of Van Meter, son Jon (Laura) of Urbandale, son Rex of Woodward, and four grandchildren, Molly and Michelle Brooker of Urbandale, Bailey and Austin Brooker of Woodward.

Memorial donations may be made to the Van Meter American Legion Post 403.
