Amanda Scott, daughter of Daniel and Arabella Scott was born April 14, 1836 in Metcalf county, Kentucky and died at her home in Madison county, Iowa, Nov. 3, 1910, aged 74 years, 6 months and 18 days. She was united in marriage to Alexander Blair, April 23, 1857. To this union were born 10 children, six sons and four daughters, nine of whom survive her and were present, the husband and a daughter having preceded her to the better land.

In 1863, she moved with her husband and three small children and settled on the present homestead and has resided in the same place continuously since. She will be sadly missed in this community to which she has lived so long. She was a woman of many virtues; she ministered to the sick, gave comfort to the sorrowing and help to the needy. Her home was always open to any who needed a place to rest or nourishment.

She leaves to mourn their loss, 9 children, 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Geo Pace of Patterson, besides a host of friends. The children are: Mrs.Sarah E. Simpson, John D., Eliza C., Wm. M., Robert A., and Geo. J. of this county; Mrs. Eugene Pixler of Sioux City, Mrs. Lois (? illegible) Moore of Warren County, Iowa, and Oliver of Spokane, Wash.

She was a kind and generous neighbor, a faithful wife, a self-sacrificing mother and a trusted friend. She leaves to her children the legacy of an (illegible) motherhood and a pure and beautiful character. We shall miss her but our loss is her eternal gain.

The funeral was held from Blair Chapel on Sunday, Nove. 6th, conducted by Rev. Arthur M. Eastman and the body laid to rest in the Blair Chapel Cemetery.
